How the Internet has Changed our Lives
The Internet has changed our lives completely since it was invented. It has helped major scientific discoveries, it has made it much easier to communicate with people, shopping would of been much harder and entertainment is also a big part of the internet.
People also think that the internet has had a much worse affect on our lives, people think that there is much less face to face communication, terrorist threats, internet bullying, propaganda and gambling.
Positive Affects on our Lives
The internet has helped out with many scientific discoveries, if we didn’t have the internet.
Communication is one of the most important things on the internet, it has helped us communicate with people that live far away from us, it has given us much more communication in general so it has changed our social lives completely. For example:
- social networking sites(Facebook)
- email (Hotmail)
- instant messaging. (Windows Live Messenger)
Shopping is one of the most important parts of the internet, the internet has many more shops on it than on the streets, this means that it has provided lots more jobs for the people that set up the websites for the shops and that has impacted on delivery companies to deliver the items that people have bought off the internet. There are many online shops that people can put on items that they don’t want. Examples:
Lots of people use the internet for gaming and entertainment, there are many different types of gaming/entertainment on the internet. Examples:
- Chat games (Runescape)
- Free gaming websites (FOG)
- Down loadable games (World of Warcraft)
Negative Affects on our Lives
Some people believe that the internet has had a complete negative affect on our lives, the main aspects of the negative internet uses are :
- Terrorist threats
- Internet bullying
- Gambling
- propaganda
- communication
Some people think that because there are more communication programs on the internet, we don’t have as much face to face communication. Gambling was already big when the inter net wasn’t set up for things like:
- Horse racing
- Casinos
- lottery
But on the internet there is many more gambling games. The internet has also brought along a form of bullying ‘internet bullying’ this has been done on the social network sites mainly but also the email sites and many of the instant messaging sites.
